The following in-house training courses are offered by ALPHA-OMÉGA INTERNATIONAL (to name a few) :

1) Title :

ELECTRIC SIGNS CONSTRUCTION
ACCORDING TO CSA STANDARDS

Type : Basic.
Duration : 6 hours.
Languages : French or English.
Prerequisite :
- basic knowledge of electricity (preferred);
- knowledge of the applicable Standards.
Maximum number of participants : 20 at a time.
Exam : 20 questions (Multiple choice format – True or False).
Certificate of Achievement : to each participant who successfully completed the exam
Author and Instructor : Jean-Marc Beaudet, Eng., B. Sc. A.
Goal : To allow each participant to obtain the knowledge and awareness essential in the fabrication/manufacturing of safer electric signs.

How :

  • By having participants and the instructor sharing their knowledge and their experience;
  • By informing the participants about the CSA requirements for the construction of an electric sign;
  • By explaning in simple terms, using analogies, the CORONA phenomenon (Partial Discharge) found in neon signs;
  • By explaning how to make the right components selection such as electronic transformers for neon, wire ways, the right metallic electrical enclosures thickness, etc.;
  • By giving each participant the opportunity to test a typical sign (supplied by the sign manufacturer) for the Dielectric Strength required and ask all questions they may have related to this type of industry. Usually a factory tour is made, in order to allow participants to present their problems using tangible items and the instructor to indicate what to do and things to avoid.

2) Title :

PROTECTIVE FOOTWEAR
TESTING PROCEDURES
per CSA (Z195) and ANSI (Z41) Standards

Type : Hands-on course, with explanation of related Physics formulas.
Duration : 4 hours.
Languages : French or English.
Prerequisite :
- basic knowledge of the Laws of Physics (preferred);
- basic knowledge of electricity (preferred);
- knowledge of the applicable Standards.
Maximum number of participants : 5 at a time.
Exam : N/A as mandatory testing on samples is done during this course.
Author and Instructor : Jean-Marc Beaudet, Eng., B. Sc. A.
Goals :
1)
Allow each participant to become familiar and comfortable with the basics of the Laws of Physics (gravity, kinetic energy, potential energy, speed, acceleration, etc.) involved in the mechanical performance (resistance of the protective footwear construction to impact, at the safety box toe area) tests schedule required to obtain and maintain the Certification of Protective Footwear;

2) Allow each participant to become familiar and comfortable with the basics of electricity and high voltage (18 000 volts ac. and the CORONA phenomenon [Partial Discharge]) involved in the dielectric strength performance (resistance of the entire protective footwear construction to electric shocks) tests schedule required to obtain and maintain the Certification of Protective Footwear.

How : by using hands-on testing, in the manufacturer's laboratory, using typical samples (to be certified or already certified) and the manufacturer's own testing equipment.

3) Title :

PROTECTIVE HEADWEAR
TESTING PROCEDURES
per CSA (Z94.1) and ANSI (Z89) Standards

Type : Hands-on course, with explanation of related Physics formulas.
Duration : 4 hours.
Languages : French or English.
Prerequisite :
- basic knowledge of the Laws of Physics (preferred);
- basic knowledge of electricity (preferred);
- knowledge of the applicable Standards.
Maximum number of participants : 5 at a time.
Exam : N/A as mandatory testing on samples is done during this course.
Author and Instructor : Jean-Marc Beaudet, Eng., B. Sc. A.
Goals :
1)
Allow each participant to become familiar and comfortable with the basics of the Laws of Physics (gravity, kinetic energy, potential energy, speed, acceleration, etc.) involved in the mechanical performance (resistance of the entire protective headwear construction to impact) tests schedule required to obtain and maintain the Certification of Protective Headwear;

2) Allow each participant to become familiar and comfortable with the basics of electricity and high voltage (18 000 volts ac. and the CORONA phenomenon [Partial Discharge]) involved in the dielectric strength performance (resistance of the entire protective headwear construction to electric shocks) tests schedule required to obtain and maintain the Certification of Protective Headwear.

How : by using hands-on testing, in the manufacturer's laboratory, using typical samples (to be certified or already certified) and the manufacturer's own testing equipment.

4) Title :

PORTABLE LADDERS
TESTING PROCEDURES
per CSA (CAN3-Z11) and ANSI (A14.XX) Standards

Type : Hands-on course, with explanation of related Physics formulas.
Duration : 7 hours.
Languages : French or English.
Prerequisite :
- basic knowledge of the Laws of Physics (preferred);
- basic knowledge of Torque (preferred);
- knowledge of the applicable Standards.
Maximum number of participants : 5 at a time.
Exam : N/A as mandatory testing on samples is done during this course.
Author and Instructor : Jean-Marc Beaudet, Eng., B. Sc. A.
Goal :
Allow each participant to become familiar and comfortable with the basics of the Laws of Physics (mass, torque, energy, etc.) involved in the mechanical performance (compression, torsion, shear, torque, etc.) tests schedule required to obtain and maintain the Certification of Portable Ladders.

How : by using hands-on testing, in the manufacturer's laboratory, using typical samples (to be certified or already certified) and the manufacturer's own testing equipment.
